5 Ways to Get Rid of Those Dark Circles around Your Eyes

Dealing with dark circles around your eyes may seem like a never-ending battle.  Dark circles and puffy eyes can instantly make you look years older and more tired than you actually are.  There are a number of potential causes including hereditary conditions, poor nutrition, allergies, smoking, and excessive consumption of alcohol.  Fortunately, there are a variety of treatment options you can take advantage of to reduce or eliminate dark circles and puffiness from around your eyes.

  1. Change Your Daily Routine

There are multiple things you do on a daily basis which could be contributing to those dark circles and puffy eyes.  One of the most common contributors is a lack of sleep.  Getting enough rest is incredibly important, but most people are too busy to get their full eight hours.  There is a reason most people associate dark circles with being tired.  It is because when you don’t get enough sleep, dark circles are one of your body’s natural reactions to sleep deprivation.

Another change you may want to consider is your diet.  Foods that are high in salts cause your body to retain water, which often leads to puffier eyes.  There are also a variety of foods which have been shown to help eliminate dark circles and puffiness once it appears.  For example, carrots are rich in vitamin A and iron which are both essential nutrients for your eyes.  Fruits rich in vitamin C can also help by thickening the eyelid dermis which may lighten the appearance of dark circles.

If you are outside on a regular basis, make sure that you protect your eyes from UV rays.  Something simple like wearing sunglasses or sunscreen will not only prevent dark circles from forming but also help prevent dreaded wrinkles and fine lines.

  1. Use an Injectable Filler

One approach to treating dark circles is using popular injectable dermal fillers such as Radiesse or Juvederm.  Dark circles around your eyes are always accompanied by “bags” which is essentially loose skin.  Using an injectable filler, you can eliminate the bags under your eyes which will also lighten the dark circles.

  1. In-Home Solutions

There are several popular in-home solutions which have been shown to be effective at reducing or eliminating dark circles and puffiness around your eyes.  SkinCeuticals has released several products which can be beneficial.  While they are most well-known for skin cleansing and skin health products, many of these products can be beneficial for the area around your eyes as well.  Both the Prevent and Correct products are effective options.  The Prevent product neutralizes UV-induced free radicals and Correct rehabilitates your skin.  There are even products which are specially formulated for delicate areas such as around your eyes.

The Obagi ELASTIderm Eye Treatment may be helpful as well.  It was primarily designed to restore elasticity to your skin and reduce visible lines.  By improving elasticity, the bags under your eyes can be reduced.

  1. Laser Treatment

There are a growing number of popular laser resurfacing procedures which have been shown to be effective at eliminating dark circles and puffiness around the eyes.   While some of these treatments are designed specifically for the area around your eye, many of them are engineered to provide skin revitalizing results which can be used on your entire face.

With so many different options available, it is up to you to decide which one is right for you.  Keep in mind that many of these treatments will be more beneficial for some people than others, so you may need to combine multiple techniques in order to achieve the results you desire.
